Juvenile Assault with A Dangerous Weapon

A 13 year old middle schooler in Massachusetts was charged in a BB gun shooting of multiple fellow students. The boy allegedly shot 4 students with plastic BBs from a KWC BB Gun, a replica of a Smith and Wesson model.

He is being charged with Juvenile Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Though the Juvenile court system is different than the adult criminal justice system, he could face serious consequences for his actions. Juvenile court penalties can result in probation, monitoring, counseling, expulsion from school, and possible detention in juvenile facilities.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries as a result of this low-grade school shooting. Still any time the words “school shooting” are used, people are rightly extremely concerned. And certainly there is also tremendous concern about what caused this young man to act so aggressively and dangerously.

UPDATE: It should be noted that brandishing a weapon, even a non-lethal one, is the kind of thing that can get a person shot at by police. And they will be using real guns and real bullets.
